8MB? Sheez, that's very fast, I presume it costs quite a bit?
I'm on 1MB. *embaressed*
But whatever, 1MB is fast and fine for me, but wow, 8 times the speed I got now? That's insane, everything loads instantly, how can it get 8 times faster? Ooohohhh

6Mbit, lag free.
Although lag has more to do with the path you take and the number of hops to the server you are connecting to then anything else. check with your isp, do a trace route see if there are any slow nodes in the path to the guidl wars server you connect to if its possible and report them to the appropriate people.

Well after suffering a bit of 'connection envy', I am running on good old dialup 56K. Unfortunately broadband is unavailable where I live and it doesn't look like it will be anytime soon. Anyhoo, I run pretty much lag free. GW runs amazingly well on a very low speed connection.

Is it possibly downloading files when you change maps? If you paid for it online and downloaded the client, you will have to download the area files the first time you enter a new area. I have the retail CD version and all the files are on my computer. It takes me a few seconds to change areas unless the area has been patched/updated. Even then the longest I have had to wait was less than a minute. The worst thing I ever get is 'rubber banding' every once in a while.

I have no idea. We couldn't get high speed here for ages, and when we finally could, it was Comcast. I think they SAY we get close to 1MB download (much slower upload) but things like browsers claim files I'm downloading are going at about 550kb. So....1MB is probably the 'max possible speed' rather than the average we actually get. whatever.
Anyway....I get occasional spikes where characters suddenly move from here to there with no visual transition, but 98% of the time no lag at all - don't think this game is ver demanding in that regard.

Just wondering....I ran this test on a link given in another thread - the 'chart' claims I'm past the '1mbit barrier' but I don't understand these figures.
Quote:
Your download speed : 1292734 bps, or 1262 kbps.
A 157.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 135455 bps, or 132 kbps.
|
Isn't kbps the same as KB/sec, and if so, why are they different numbers? And why do browsers say 550kb? Argh. Techno-speak.
EDIT - well I went to another page and it said I downloaded 2993kB of data in 10.5 seconds, and another said I had a 1.2mbit connection (so that part's consistent at least). Numbers...all just numbers. It's speedy and more than fast enough, that's all I notice. heh

I play on 3/768 DSL from Verizon. No lag whatsoever. If you're getting lag you might want to try www.dslreports.com and browse their forums (they probably have one for your cable/dsl provider) where they could provide you with some info on how to find out what could be causing this lag.

KB/sec is kilobytes/second, and kbps is kilobits/second. There are 8 bits in a byte (there's a jump-rope rhyme in here somewhere...).
@Phantium: Um, would you like a roommate?

Enough room here, wouldn't be a problem LOL. I'll be getting 24mbit soon.
Atleast, my provider is working on releasing it shortly.
Yet again, the more speed for me to use.
